March 11 part 2

Mom was admitted to TIRR last night. She ate most of her dinner. She took the cup out of my hand while I was giving her a drink of water and started drinking on her own.

For those not familiar with TIRR, I have included a link below. TIRR received attention for treating Kevin Everett, the Buffalo Bills Tight End who received a severe spinal cord injury.

  1. Hi, Stephen,

I am so glad your mom is at TIRR - one of the best for the best!!

As a side note, when I visited your mom about 2 weeks ago, I asked her if she remembered that I had moved to Louisiana. She answered, "yes." I then asked if she could remember where & she responded, "Pontchartrain." For those who don't know, Ponchartrain is a water way near New Orleans & is also the name of a DuPont site. A big word for someone who had not been talking!! Anyway, I told her that was close, but that I lived in Sulphur, which is right next to "Lake Charles!"

Your mom will be ok. Some things may not be the exactly the same, but some things will be even better! Life is that way. And things change even when we don't have a major illness (I never thought I would leave my beloved Texas & live in Louisiana!!).

One thing will not change, though. She loves her son more than anything. We mothers don't want our children to see us helpless or weak or having to take care of us. She is so proud of you - always has been, always will.

    Take care, Linda Briggs
