Mom is doing very well.
They moved her hospital bed to a chair configuration and she is currently sitting chair style. She has been more responsive today.
They are working toward moving mom out of the ICU and into a less intensive unit. The nurse told me that by Monday, Mom will be in a different hospital unit. This is more proof of her slow steady improvement.
The CT from this morning looked good. She has no signs of hydrocephalus, so hopefully they will not need to put in a shunt.

Hi, Stephen,
ReplyDeleteMy friend Stony & I visited your mom this afternoon. After talking to her for about 10 minutes, she opened her eyes & tried to talk. After several tries, we were able to communicate with each other. She nodded yes that she knew who I was & said my name when I asked her what my name was. I asked her if she remembered us being neighbors on Godwin Road, and she nodded.
She became very excited when I told her about your blog & that there were a lot of people reading about her progress & praying for her - every day. She gave us a big smile even though she had an oxygen mask on.
I reminded her of going dancing & again that big smile. When I spoke of Johnny, she couldn't recall that he had been there, but I showed her the picture of the two of them on the wall & told her I had seen his name in your blog. Again, that big smile. She remembered him staying with her after his house was destroyed after the hurricane.
When I mentioned Sheryl's name, she nodded & smiled.
She did say that she doesn't understand a lot of what has happened, but she did say one word - miracle!! And we agreed, that she was a miracle.
We stayed about 20 minutes - I hated to leave with her wide awake, but I didn't know if you were waiting to visit - it was about 4:15pm. I also didn't want to wear her out.
I told her that she had a lot of friends that would help in the coming days & weeks, because she had helped so many in the past. She remembered having "guests" staying after the hurricanes. Again, that big smile.
Please let all of us help you when the time comes - your mom is special & we know that she would do it for us...
Take care,
Linda Briggs & Stony Breaux
Hi Mona and Stephen,
ReplyDeleteGreetings and prayers from Kansas City. It is certainly comforting to read of your continued improvement. When our cousin Teddy told me earlier this week you were in the hospital and the seriousness of your difficulties, my first reaction - you'll be home in a few days - you are too much of a fighter to let anything slow you down for long. You are proving me right - maybe a few days off on your return home.
Many thanks to Stephen for the updates - looking forward to the post that tells us you are on your way home.
God bless you both as well as the doctors and nurses providing your care.
Andy Mamalis

Linda,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I have been sick for much of this week. This also means I have not seen her in a while. I have not seen these miracles everyone keeps talking about. I only pass on the information I get from doctors and nurses. Thank you for being so detailed. I can not wait to hear her voice again.
Andy,
Great to hear from you. You are right, she will be home in no time.
Aunt Betty,
I know you love the Lord dearly and are praying earnestly for Mom. Thank you for that and the birthday wishes. I had almost forgotten it was coming up.
Fred,
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I am not Superman, that was my dad, I just fake it really well.
Love to all,
Stephen
