I spoke with Joyce this evening about this little blog. She told me it was a great idea and would be helpful for my mom during the recovery process.
Joyce has worked in health care for many years, the majority of that time in Neurology. She told me that Mom will probably forget everything that happened the day she went to the ER.
It is amazing to me that God designed us so well that our brains are hardwired to block out traumatic expereinces and protect us.
To that end, I would ask you to write messages to Mom on this blog. We plan to let her read this when she recovers to help her piece together the time she has lost. Also I must admit, that when I see a message from someone it makes me feel like this blog is worthwhile.

We are reading here! Mona, you have always been such a joy to my life, even though I don't see you nearly as much as I would like to. You are one of the best gifts I received when I married into your family! Once you are better, we're definitely going to get everyone together for another trip to Gator Country or for Mexican food!
ReplyDeleteStephen,we thank you for keeping us informed on Mona's recovery. My girls and I keep the blog "up" on our computers and come to it from time to time during the day to see if there are any updates. I appreciate the information on the "how" and the "why" things are being done. I've always felt better if I know what's happening or about to happen.
ReplyDeleteLet us know when she can receive (and would be able to read) cards and letters.
We love you, call if you need any thing.

Hi, my name is Josh Kozel and this blog was referred to me by Mike Adams. Your strength throughout what your mother is going through has touched my heart! My family will continue to pray for God to heal your mother and get her on a speedy road to recovery! I'm so glad to hear continuous good reports! God is Great!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephen's mom. I haven't met you, but I had the pleasure of having Stephen and Sonya as neighbors last year and were blessed by their friendship. I will continue to pray that you are healed and that God will be glorified through all this. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteAll the Best,
Sean
Stephen,
ReplyDeleteI check the blog every hour or so. It helps make my prayers specific. Thank you for taking the time to explain things. We love you and Aunt Mona very much.
Nanette
As many have already said, we appreciate the updates and the explanations that you are providing. Stephen, your strength through this has been amazing and your love and devotion to God is uplifting. Knowing you I would not have expected anything else, but even through your trials you were there to help the Ramirez family (which by the way, how is their daughter doing?) We are praying for you and Aunt Mona.

Mona, I have been checking this site three or four times a day and so thankful that Stephen has been able to keep the post here for all to see. He has so much strength and we are all so thankful for him. I am praying everyday for your speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteLove, Julia
I also keep the blog open on both my computer and phone and just click refresh every few hours. Just like Nanette said, it helps us to pray more specifically. Your strength and words have truly been an inspiration. We always wish we could have those magical words to say, but in reality, your posts are evidence that in this time, you truly don't need us, we need you Stephen. You are one of those great heros of faith that we often hear or read about, you are walking on a level with God right now that we all envy. Because you are walking hand in hand with Him, we are drawing more strength and hope from you, than you are from us. I hope that makes sense. You naturally make those around you better people and I know that you get it from your mom. I know, because I am a much better person after being your roommate for so long. Mona, I'm sorry it has been a while since we last got to see each other, but know that my prayers are with you, and will continue to be. I know the doctors say it's going to be a while, but know that we are in it for the long haul with you. I look forward to seeing you soon and know that we are always here for you.

Mona,
ReplyDeleteStephen is doing a great job keeping everyone updated on your progress. God couldn't have selected a better guardian for you. You and Wynne did an exemplary job raising Stephen, you need to pass on your programming secrets to your sister and me. He is the best Eagle Scout I know. Get well soon. Love to all. Hook-em Horns.

ReplyDeleteHi Mona!
I check this blog three times a day for updates, Stephen is truly remarkable and this blog is a God send! Technology, as you know, is wonderful! I read every post to Mom to keep her updated and she is much more relaxed than getting bits and pieces here and there. I hope your recovery is speedy so we can have a "girl's night out" when I get there in August. Miss everyone very much.
I love this idea, and what great advice from Joyce. What day did she go in exactly? Is there anything interesting to collect about those days? News? music? history? that she needs to know? I was around and still don't remember! jeez. take care of her.... she is in great hands I know!
ReplyDeleteHello Stephen,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time and effort to keep everyone updated on your Mom's condition,it is so greatly appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. As a Regestered Nurse,I know that the human body is an amazing thing. My specialty is in the emergency room, but I am also part of the truma team and have seen so much and have been amazed when a patient that we had to med-flight comes back to our ER just to say thank you,and we are just so happy to see them well, you just have to keep in mind that blessings are found in places you never knew. However they come hold on to them Stephen because God sends them for a reason at first you may not know that reason but it will come to you. Your mom will not remember much if anything at all and as you know recovery will be slow, but it will happen, just trust in your faith and that is all you have to do God will do the rest. Our prayers and Love to all of you and most importantly to your mom, she is the greatest. We love her so very much, such a beautiful blazing light cannot be extinquished that is what your mom is that light that has touched to many lives to count. We love you and will be waiting for more newes, when your feeling abit low just remember one movie line..."MEOW",and I hope it brings a smile to your face.
Love,
Scott & Judie

ReplyDeleteAlthough we only meet Mona for a week during our visit to Texas last year, she made a lasting impression. Uncle Johnny is important to her and so was his family. We have kept in touch by E-mail since our visit in February last year and spoke to her just a few weeks ago about meeting up in Las Vegas. We are devasted by this news and are praying for her recovery. Please share when the time is right that our thoughts and prayers are with her. Love Ray, Pam, Sydney and Madison
PS Keep up the blog we are reading the updates daily-
