The Book of Job

I went and read to Mom for a little while this morning. I found myself reading Job, the same book of the Bible I read when Dad passed away.

One of the hardest things for us (me especially) is the fact that bad things happen to good people. The reason we struggle with this is that we look from at things from our perspective.

Yes there are people who do more good than bad, but on our very best day, we are not blameless in the site of the Lord. In all honesty, God could call each of us sinners, punish us and be completely justified in doing so.

It is only because of his amazing love that he has not judged us for the bad things we have done. God does not see good or bad people, just his children who have made mistakes.

The whole book of Job deals with these questions. I have wrestled with them my whole life. I think that Job says something very profound in the book. What right do I have to complain when bad things happen that I "do not deserve"? I never once complained when a good thing happened that I did not deserve.

Deserve has nothing to do with any of this. God knows why this is happening and his wisdom is greater than ours could ever be. Read through Job chapters 38, 39, 40 and 41. He is in control and knows what he is doing.

In all honesty, we are better off not asking God for what we deserve. We should be happy that God sent his son Jesus Christ to pay for our sins so that we can share in his perfection before God.

Love,

Stephen

  1. Stephen,
Just wanted to send a note to you to encourage you. I have been in your place searching for truths in God's Word for comfort. I hope I don't offend you in saying God is not in control. Most people have this misconception. You see if He were, the world and the bad things that happen would not occur. He is good and every good and perfect gift comes from Him. The devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy. He came to bring life and that more abundanty. He gave all authority and the Keys to the Kingdom to us. We have the power to bind and loose things in heaven and earth. In Job 22:28-30, it says we can decree a thing and it shall be established. You see Stephen the greater one lives on the inside of you if you have made Jesus the Lord of your life. You can speak to your moms body and command it to function in the perfection that God created it to function. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Decree that your mom will not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Jesus paid for our sickness at the cross. We are the redeemed and we must believe that we are. Speak to her that the life of 1 Peter 2:24 is a reality in her flesh, restoring every cell of her body, and that which God has not planted is dissolved and rooted out of her body in Jesus name. That tumors or growths have no right to be in her body. Command satan to take his hands off of God's property.
I have a small book on healing scriptures to profess over your mom. I have an extra if you would like me to mail it to you. I hope you get a hold of the truths I have said to you. We have added our faith with yours in believing for your moms total recovery.

  2. Stephen,
Thank you so much for all of your post. It is wonderful to be far away and yet be able to follow what is going on there. I am praying for you and for her. I have sent a prayer request to my church. I appreciate your bible verse and what you said about Job. You are right that we don't wonder why good things happen to us when we know we did not deserve them. But myself I do ask why are these things happening that are bad so your message helped me.
I love you and pray for God's strength to be given to you right now. You are wonderful and I know that our Dad is watching down on you and is so proud.
    Love, Julia
